Getting a working prototype out of an AI coding tool is a genuine achievement. It proves the idea works, it shows people what you mean, and it gets you further than a spec document ever could.
What we see, again and again, is that the "last 20%" turns out to be closer to half the job. Proper architecture, real infrastructure, security, app store submission, something your team can actually maintain once it's live. That's not a knock on what you built. It's just a different skill set, and one that matters a lot more once real customers and real data are involved.

What we typically find
When we open up an AI-built prototype, the same handful of issues turn up again and again:
Duplicated logic, because the AI agent didn't have visibility of an existing part of the app
Database queries that work fine with ten test records and fall over under real traffic
Missing or inconsistent auth on routes added later in the build
UI components that don't share state properly, causing bugs that only show up in specific flows
No real deployment pipeline, so every change is a manual, risky process
None of this means the prototype was wasted effort. It means someone now needs to go through it with real engineering judgement before it runs a real business.
AI coding agents are great at boilerplate.
But they don't know your product.
AI tools are excellent at scaffolding, CRUD, glue code, the repetitive parts of a build. What they're not good at is understanding how the rest of your product fits together. Left alone, an AI agent will confidently make a decision that ignores your existing architecture, and hand you technical debt you won't see until it breaks in production.
